Just a friendly reminder that while the “real beauty” campaign has the right idea, and that video that’s circulating seems awesome, that they don’t actually practice what they preach.

Not to mention there are still a lot of issues in regards to inclusion and what bodies aren’t even making it into the “real beauty” ads.

This doesn’t surprise me. Big corporations are renown for tailoring their image based on the demographic in whatever country they’re targeting.

For instance, Nivea sells skin-whitening products (as do Mary Kay and other beauty companies) in other countries outside the U.S. but they don’t sell them here in the country simply because one of their biggest cash-cows in skin-bleaching in countries where skin-bleaching is a normal thing.

So this type of advertising doesn’t surprise me at all.
